THE BAND

Alex Cheung – Fiddle

Alex Cheung is a unique violinist/fiddler who is not afraid to try any musical genre.  With formal classical training under his belt, Alex’s musical explorations in the last 15 years have taken him into the worlds of Celtic, pop/rock, folk, electronic, R&B and jazz music.  Alex now teaches violin and theory lessons, both privately and at several music schools in the Greater Toronto Area.  He is currently a member of several bands: Up All Night (Celtic band), the Parkdale Revolutionary Orchestra (contemporary/experimental chamber ensemble), the McFlies (acoustic 80’s band). He has collaborated and performed with many artists, including singer/songwriters Adlai Waxman, Philomene Hoffman, Melanie Joy, Michael Holt, Peter Shaw and the late Kenny MacLean (former Platinum Blonde bassist).  His music has taken him to the Canadian Country Music Awards Showcase (2003) with Donna Ferra and the Montreal Jazz Festival (2005) with Julie Crochetière.  Alex has appeared on Breakfast Television twice with his bands, and performs regularly in Toronto.  In 2006, his music arrangement and production skills earned him compliments from Peter Gabriel (Genesis) in the “Shock the Monkey Remix Competition”.

Miller’s known for his speed-metal-acoustic-strumming and weight-shedding performances.  “I try to play like I’m in the kitchen or the campfire back in Cape Breton, surrounded by a bunch of friends and Crown Royal.  I think that feeling turns spectators into participants.”
